About this deal

c) the Qualifying Product must not involve one or more Exclusions, see below at end of these Terms for Exclusions. Exclusions may be updated from time to time. Benefiting from being stopped down 2 stops, the f/1.4 lens shows less spherical and axial CA at f/2.8 and the f/2.8 lens shows less lateral CA. The Tamron lens has slight barrel distortion that is slightly stronger than the Sony lens' slight pincushion distortion. The FE 2.8/35 does not feature floating elements so performance suffers quite a bit at shorter distances. F/2.8 is a bit soft, f/4 is good and you should stop down to f/5.6 for very good results. f/5.6 vs f/2.8 – 100% crops, LR default settings Sony FE 2.8/35 at it’s close focusing distance | f/5.6 | full resolution Alternatives

This Zeiss 35mm is extremely sharp throughout all of the full frame image at every setting. If you're not getting sharp images, you're doing something wrong. When shooting at the widest apertures, depth of field is often shallow and the plane of sharp focus less-frequently includes a corner, making corner sharpness less important. While the two lenses have a similar amount of peripheral shading at f/2.8, the f/2.8 lens has less in the deep corners at narrow apertures.

The Carl Zeiss 2.8/35 is the smallest native lens you can buy for the a7 series. It is still a bit too large to call it a pancake but it comes close. I prefer a little larger lenses on my a7 but handling is still very good and at only 120g it is an excellent choice when you want to travel light. The FE 35mm F2.8 ZA Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* is one of the first three lenses available for Sony's full-frame E-mount system, having been announced alongside the Alpha 7 and 7R camera bodies. It offers a classic moderate wideangle view that's well-suited to a wide range of subjects, including such things as reportage or street photography. It uses a 7-element, 5-group optical design, which includes three aspherical elements to minimise aberrations. Although Sony claims that the design is “ d ust and moisture resistant” the lens has no gasket around the lens mount, so weather resistance will be limited. While both lenses are reported to have weather sealing, only the Tamron lens has a gasket around the mount.

There is a moderate (normal) change in subject size as full extent focus adjustments are made with this lens. Axial CA remains at least somewhat persistent when stopping down with the color misalignment effect increasing with defocusing while Voigtlander Ultron 1.7/35– If you like fully manual lenses this is probably a better choice. While it is a small lens it isn’t as small as he FE 2.8/35 but it is 1.5 stops faster and feels a bit nicer. Optically it is at least as sharp as the FE but it has quite strong field curvature. I didn’t compare them directly but I am quite certain that the Voigtlander has sharper corners stopped down. It also has less distortion, less CA and is more flare resistant. Astigmatism is seen as points of light spreading into a line, either sagittal (radiating from the center of the image) or meridional (tangential, perpendicular to sagittal).the spherical aberration color halo shows little size change as the lens is defocused and stopping down one to two stops generally removes this aberration. Fortunately, this lens performs well wide-open at f/2.8, turning in good sharpness across the frame at f/2.8.
